The hands-on nature of the chiropractic treatment is essentially what requires patients to visit the chiropractor a number of times. To be treated by a chiropractor, a patient needs to be in his or her office. In contrast, a course of treatment from medical doctors often involves a pre-established plan that is conducted at home (i.e. taking a course of antibiotics once a day for a couple of weeks).

A chiropractor may provide acute, chronic, and/or preventive care thus making a certain number of visits sometimes necessary. Your doctor of chiropractic should tell you the extent of treatment recommended and how long you can expect it to last.

Many people believe, or have heard, that once you start going, you have to always go. Let’s take a moment and compare this to really any other activity that you can do for your health. Once you start eating right, you always need to eat right in order the get the benefits from eating right. Same can be said of exercising, brushing your teeth, etc.

Most of our patients are seen for acute injuries, and we develop a treatment plan to get them back to the way they were prior to the injury. At the end of this care, once they have returned to their pre-injury health level, they are generally released and do not need any further care for that injury. Some injuries are more of a chronic nature, and thus may need regular care to manage the symptoms. Others simply choose to come in and get adjusted even when they are feeling great, because the benefits of chiropractic, including an improved immune system, increased energy, and prevention of many spinal problems.
