Colic and Chiropractic

Colic – Should my child get adjusted?

Yes, children can benefit from chiropractic care. Children are very physically active and experience many types of falls and blows from activities of daily living as well as from participating in sports. In the case of very young children, their muscles are not yet strong enough to properly stabilize their spine and thus injuries or subluxations can occur rather easily.

These injuries may not cause any pain at all, or they may cause many symptoms including back and neck pain, stiffness, soreness or discomfort. If the child is too young to tell you what is bothering them, they will just cry out endlessly. This behavior is called colic. Though, there may be many causes of colic, most respond very well and very rapidly to chiropractic care.

I once had an eight month old who was crying for most of the day, and the mother could not figure out what to do or what was wrong. She was out of options and was desperate to stop the crying and console her child. I adjusted the baby boy with a very gentle techique, and within seconds, he stopped crying, closed his eyes and fell asleep.

Chiropractic care is always adapted to the individual patient. It is a highly skilled treatment, and in the case of children, very gentle.
