Chiropractic Referral

Is a referral needed to see a chiropractor

A referral is usually not needed to see a doctor of chiropractic (DC); however, your health plan may have specific referral requirements. You can contact your insurance company directly to find out if a referral is needed, or you can contact us and we will check your insurance benefits for you. Most plans allow you to just call and schedule an appointment with a Chiropractor, without a referral.

In fact, chiropractors are generally considered gateway physicians. This means that, although we are considered a specialist, referrals are generally not required. It also means that we can generally make any necessary referrals for imaging, other diagnostics, or to another type of practitioner, and those services will be covered by your insurance. Of course, there are exceptions, which we would be more than happy to check for you.

Though most insurance does not require a referral to see a chiropractor, many do require precertification for visits beyond a certain initial number of visits. This is also something we can take care of for you.
